Her search pulls her into a web of kidnapping and shady research, all tied to the powerful Monomind corporation, in a retro cyberpunk city full of high-tech and low-life.

Gameplay

Jack Move is a turn-based JRPG in which you control a single character for the whole game. Combat revolves around a rock-paper-scissors triangle between hack types: Cyberware beats Electroware, Electroware beats Wetware, and Wetware beats Cyberware.

Ikenfell

Note: I wrote this review at the time of playing this game in July 2023.

The plot in a paragraph

Maritte Hildegaard embarks on a quest to find her missing sister Safina. It forces some strategy and planning using a 3 character team. The characters can be changed on the save point, reminding me of RTS on the original Final Fantasy VII.

Castle Crashers

Note: I wrote this review at the time of playing this game (exactly 1 year ago).

The plot in a paragraph

We are at a party. Poof! An evil wizard crashes the party and steals the King’s Magical Crystal (and four princesses). Swords, fireballs, arrows and magic fly through the air.

Gameplay

Castle Crashers is a charming 2D arcade-style game with RPG elements that enrich the overall gameplay. Players navigate through various stages, defeating hordes of enemies using melee attacks, spells, and items.

Et tu, Disqus?

Up until last week, I was using Disqus to have commenting on the posts, but I never realized integrating Disqus in the blog was force displaying ads. Checking on Disqus’ website, I see that I can disable the “In-thread” and “Below Comments” ads, but the “Above Comments” ads are blocked behind a premium subscription.

Since there is no reason for me to be currently paying for a premium of a service that I barely use, and displaying ads are not an option, I went ahead and disabled it. I am most likely to explore the possibility of self-hosting an open source solution that can do the same thing, but I will write a proper update when I have it all figured out.

Porting Teleporter - Day 1

Feeling lost? For today, I want to:

Organize the project.

Replace the old assets with the ones from the APK.

Compile an APK for Android.

Organizing the project

Files and Directories

This is the mess I had.

<img src="https://danvj.gitlab.io/img/porting-teleporter/1/messy-directory.png" alt="Screenshot of the messy directory containing all files from the project. We programmed the game in Lua using the old CoronaSDK, and I believe our files were hosted in our Corona accounts. However, this project has become opensource, under the name Solar2D, and I can’t seem to find a way of getting the source code back. This is a bit troublesome, since I had the objective of reworking the code base to remove the ads and porting the game to the new engine, in order to provide an APK that can be enjoyed in modern phones.

Afterdream

The plot in a paragraph

A beautiful and immersive pixel-art game by Jesse Makkonen that explores grief, mental health and the afterlife. We explore a world somewhere between dreams and reality while trying to make sense of it.

Gameplay

Afterdream is a horror puzzle style game with some elements of classic point-and-click titles. It has a similar vibe to the DISTRAINT series but also to older titles from Rusty Lake. Despite the end product, to me, feeling more like a walking simulator, the atmosphere of this game is amazing, and the story is very compelling.

Adding a Game Review Board

I recently decided to document my general opinion on the games that I’m playing. I guess it’s just the “you need to always be creating something” voice in my head that I can’t shut up. Currently I am finishing up reviews on 4 different games, and I thought it was a good idea to revamp the way I present them.

So, in addition to the “Game Score” board at the bottom of every post, I also created a separate page to have a summary board of all the games and their scores.

Swag and Sorcery

The plot in a paragraph

You are serving a king whose priorities might seem a bit off, focusing entirely on clothing and fashion. Allegedly, his “special clothes” have been stolen. You have been tasked to put the whole kingdom’s resources into the holy quest of retrieving said clothes. During this whole bizarre event, the king’s advisor starts to get angry and masterminds a coup from the shadows. Also, there is a very cool talking black cat. I would never forget the very cool talking black cat.

Jolt Configs: From CSGO to CS2 and more

With the recent launch of Counter-Strike 2, I revisited my configurations to set up an
autoexec.cfg
file to test the game. However, I have renamed my old CSGO Jolt CFG repository to simply Jolt Configs. This change was motivated because now it will not only house configurations for Counter-Strike 2, but also the legacy configurations for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

I had a separate (private) repository, TF2 Jolt CFG, dedicated to my Team Fortress 2 configurations. I’ve now integrated this into the Jolt Configs repository, under the TF2 branch. I know it still needs a lot of work. I do not play TF2 as much anymore, so it might take a while to merge into the master branch.

Going Under

The plot in a paragraph

Have you ever wondered how it would be if you worked at a trendy startup?
